Seattle Half Marathon Walk 2005

We got up early on Sunday November 27th to do the Seattle Half Marathon Walk. This would be my 2nd time to do this event but I knew this year would be tougher due to the lack of training I had done. Everything started out fine we hooked up with friends and enjoyed the nice day and the excitement of being there. When I saw the Marathon runners I wanted to join them on their jaunt across I-90 and be part of something big and to be able to say yes I had run a marathon. We ran into several friends who were working he marathon as Hams - Linda and George were patrolling on their bicycles. About mile 7 my knees started bugging me and by mile 9 I winced on almost every step going downhill was much worse. I was very happy to finish the event. We finished in 4 hours about 30 minutes slower then last years time. I hobbled to the car and spent the rest of the day crashed on the couch. I spent some time on Monday trying to figure out what had gone wrong - my IT band had gotten inflamed and rubbed on my boney knees - because I had not done as much training my body let me down. I'm on vitamin I this week and icing. Next year I'll be back to try again.

Fog Fog and More Fog

Commuted to work on my bicycle today through the dreary fog in Seattle but I like it better then rain. My commute is 9 miles and takes me about 45 minutes due to stopping at stop lights and avoiding students on the bike trail near the University of Washington. The other night we went to the Sonics Game at Seattle Center and you couldn't even see the top of the Space Needle - reminds me of that line from Annie about make it shine like the top of the Chysler Building - or like Men In Black - we thought the top of the Space Needle had taken off.

Almost Turkey Day

Yeah - looking forward to the Holiday spending it with friends.

This year we are spending the Holiday with our friend Ron and lots of other friends. We were designated to bring the cheese plate (for those of you that think this seems strange we all have traveled to France and appreciate this course) and a vegetable dish. I almost decided to make the erstwhile scarey green bean casserole but found a good recipe for green beans with lemon, parsley and garlic on www.epicurious.com.
